Saint Mark will be celebrating a parish-wide consecration to Jesus through Mary on Saturday, August 15 at 9 am Mass, The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  The 33 day preparation will begin Monday, July 13.

There are different ways to do the preparation for the consecration. The two methods most widely used are:

Saint Louis Grignon de Montfort: Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

This was created in the XVIII century and consists of 12 preliminary days in which the soul empties itself of the spirit of the world. This is followed by three weeks of prayer and meditations in which our souls will focus on trying to understand ourselves and our sins (first week), getting to know and better understand the Blessed Virgin Mary (second week), and getting to know and better understand Jesus Christ (third week).

For information, visit Consecration Explained.  There is a detailed explanation of Consecration as well as daily prayers, and podcasts.  You may also purchase the book, Total Consecration to Jesus Thru Mary: The 33 Day Method of Prayer & Meditation According to St. Louis de Montfort at various booksellers.

33 Days to Morning Glory

The book 33 Days to Morning Glory was written in 2011, by Father Michael Gaitley. Since this book is more contemporary, for many it is easier to follow and understand than St, Montfort’s book. This preparation is divided into 4 weeks and in each week there are readings and brief reflections based on 4 great Marian saints. Although optional, it is highly recommended to pray a daily rosary during the 33 day preparation (and beyond).  The book can be purchased here:  An electronic version is also available:

“Consecrating ourselves to Mary means accepting her help to offer ourselves and the whole of mankind to him who is holy, infinitely holy; it means accepting her help—by having recourse to her motherly heart, which beneath the cross was opened to love for every human being, for the whole world—in order to offer the world, the individual human being, mankind as a whole, and all the nations to him who is infinitely holy.” – St. John Paul II, homily at Fatima (May 13, 1982)
