Novena for Priests 2024

FOR OUR DEACONS TO BE ORDAINED PRIESTS

June 6 to June 14, 2024

What a blessing it is to have 7 deacons to be ordained Priests this year! It will be such a blessing for them and we can only imagine all the graces that the Lord will pour out on them.

We invite you to pray and consider joining a novena that will be offered for these men. For as Matthew 18:20 states “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” or as John 14:13 states "And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son". These 7 men are giving their life for us and we are giving 9 days of praying and fasting for them!

Your bouquet of prayers could be like this or similar:

  • One Holy Hour each day (9 Hours)
  • Abstinence of one meal each day or fast on bread and Water every day (9 Days of fasting/abstinence)
  • Novena to the Holy Spirit (9 days)
  • 1 Rosary daily (9 Rosaries)
  • 1 Litany to the Sacred Heard of Jesus daily (9)

We offer our prayers, fasting and sacrifices for our Deacons to be ordained Priests: Matthew Wayne Dimock Jr., Christian Joseph Goduti, Matthew Philip Harrison II, Kevin Ruben Martinez, José Alfredo Palma Torres, Elliott Cade Suttle, and Kevin Michael Tran.

Initial Prayers:

+Sign of the Cross

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

CREED

I believe in God,

the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;

he descended into hell;

on the third day he rose again from the dead;

he ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;

from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and life everlasting.

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS:

O Almighty Eternal God, look upon the face of thy Christ, and for love of Him who is the eternal High Priest, have pity on Thy priests. Remember, O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them by the imposition of the Bishop’s hands. Keep them close to Thee, lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.

O Jesus, I pray Thee for Thy faithful and fervent priests; for Thy unfaithful and tepid priests; for Thy priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Thy tempted priests; for Thy lonely and desolate priests; for Thy young priests; for Thy aged priests; for Thy sick priests; for Thy dying priests; for the souls of Thy priests in purgatory.

But above all I commend to Thee the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me; the priests who absolved me from my sins; the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Thy Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed me or helped me and encouraged me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way, particularly N.N. O Jesus, keep them all close to Thy heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.

O Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us and send us many and holy priests. (3 times.)

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to us that He may perfect in our soul, the work of Your grace and Your love.  Grant us the Spirit of Wisdom that We may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten our mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that We may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that We may bear our cross with You and that We may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose our salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that We may know God and know ourselves and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that We may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that We may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him.  Mark us, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate us in all things with Your Spirit.

Amen.
